In worship, the congregation engages in a lively dialogue with God as we listen and respond through scripture, sermons, prayer and music.
Worship at the Community Church of Glen Rock is relaxed but not informal, relevant but not trendy. Sermons relate scripture’s old story to the challenges and delights of the present. Music plays a large part in our worship with congregational hymn singing and with music performed by the chancel choir, hand bell choir, and children’s choir. As a part of our worship, we greet and extend peace to each other as well as offering prayers of confession, intercession and praise.
We celebrate the sacraments of Holy Baptism and the Lord’s Supper(also called Eucharist or Holy Communion). Infants as well as adults are baptized. The Lord’s Supper is celebrated once a month.
In baptism, the love of God expressed at Jesus’ cross is physically present with us in the water that is poured out. God’s love for us precedes our response. Therefore we believe that our children are welcomed by God in baptism. In baptism, children are welcomed as full members of the Church, as we pledge ourselves to support them and their parents.
At the Lord’s Supper, we believe that we are in the presence of the Lord Jesus. God’s Holy Spirit invites and ushers us into the presence of the Lord when we eat and drink at this Table. We also believe that this meal is but an appetizer of the great feast that God has prepared for all God’s people.
