Tenebrae – “shadows” or “darkness”
This year the church will be holding a Tenebrae Service during Holy Week on Maundy Thursday, March 29th at 7:30pm in the sanctuary.
This deeply meaningful candle light service of the shadows will be highlighted by short drama that will follow Jesus’ last hours. Between each of the scenes there will be music selections that will set the tone as we walk alongside Jesus on his way to the cross. This poignant re-enactment, also known as the service of the shadows, is performed much like a radio drama as the lighting progressively dims until all we are left with is the light of the Christ candle. In this process we are taken back to the depth and magnitude of this solemn occasion.
The retelling of this story will be directed by former Broadway actor Jeanne Jones O’Brien and will include a group of veteran Broadway actors from New York who will be working side by side with members of the congregation.
Music which is a vital part of the evening will encompass a wide variety of styles, including; classical, spirituals, folk, and contemporary Christian. Join us for this powerful and deeply moving service.
